I found a motorcycle that I could afford to buy on a whim Saturday... I havent driven one in over a decade, but most of this island is the perfect climate for riding- It is a 1985 Kawasaki 454 LTD. Despite its age it only has 23,000 miles on it- It was owned by a fellow that lived in alaska and only used it when visiting the island, it was in storage the rest of the time. The dealer claims it runs well and is in good mechanical shape (It does need lots of cosmetic work).
I called one of the local Kawasaki dealerships and asked them if it was something they could still find parts for... they said yes, no problem and that the 454 LTD engine was "bulletproof", furthermore it turns out the owner had brought it in to them for a checkout before selling it to the store I found it in- The Kawasaki mechanics said it was in excellent shape, but that it needed a bath...
It does seem to have oxidation that needs to be cleaned up- (spots on the chrome, kickstand is very rusty) It needs to be repainted, and the seat redone... However at the price the shop was asking it seems like a good deal...
Anyone familiar with this type of bike?
Any motorcycle afficionados here?
