Further research found this paper on "blowout depressions" on Mars and a terrestial example in Idaho. see paper "UNUSUAL PHENOMENON OF THE WIND-RELATED MODIFICATION OF A SMALL IMPACT CRATERS IN CHRYSE PLANITIA ON MARS.
