Not fully insured. Had to hire a PI to act like a mafia thug to scare a modern car thief ring in the midwest into returning an Olds Limited that they stold. It was in a trailer and they had no idea they were stealing such a rare tracible item. They drove My dad's suburban off a cliff to dispose of it, and he was just lucky they took some time to decide what to do with the limited. With two crazy x-wives living in the same town I'd be worried about fire as well as theft. If fully ensured I'd consider old cars comparable to stocks, but think my dad is has a warped sense of risk to consider stocks riskier than his current state. However, his own experience based on the last ten years would probably support that. He relies on others to manage his lump sum retirement portfolio.
I prefer stocks with a bias towards small and growth companies. I trade about an average of once a month based on the relevant performance of the different stock classes. This is done in a 401Ks and IRAs without tax liabilities for the trades. Doubling down so to speak after major corrections in small company stocks has really helped me out.
Been burned by a tech fund and a small cap growth fund in my kids college funds (low to mild total negative return), but initial diversification has their total up 50% over the past 9 years. Their funds are based on the proceeds from the sale of an unrestored 1911 Rambler my grandfather "gave" me at four. Whether this was really intended or not is unclear, but I never forgot an offhand comment. My retirement funds on the other hand are entirely self accumulated.
Regards,
Mark
