I agree with you here SDAI. And usually big cocaine growers DO give monies to local schools and churches as a way of "giving back".
They probably even donate to the arts.
Large illegal cash flows make their way into our very infrastructures through banks and the most commonest of large events. And to an extent I agree with DFM here. The "War on Drugs" which started in the early 1980's with William Bennett testifying before a large congressional committee of doctors and psychologists was nothing more than a mouthpiece for the right wingers behind Iran Contra (aka Oliver North, Edwin Meese, John Poindexter, Richard secord, Donald Gregg, Robert McFarlane, Bush Sr. et al) to keep the investigators out of their pockets and comings and goings and by pumping up their buddies in the Defense Industries so that they could sell more weapons and create more wars in other countries that would be politically expedient for them. (What's not to love about mis-directing people, when something politically expedient comes about because of it?)
At least that's what I saw back then, because I watched the hearings.
We are on a corporate ride which worships money as it's goal, not the health of society. Until that system collapses, we are unable to stop that train from reaching it's (yet unforseen) destination.
As an end note, Bill Bennett turns out to be an addicted gambler, blowing eight million dollars in Las Vegas in one day (I beleive). And it's people likie him who have the power behind the throne to push through bills associated with these Washington "power" brokers.....hypocrites every one of them.
