re: opium crop
They are growing their poppies somewhere else. During the Bush admin. the US poured 2.5 billion into Columbia to fight the cocaine industry. Columbia is now competing with the Afghans in the opium business--such pretty flowers. Bolivia has upped its production of cocaine to pick up the slack.
In the wonderful world of controlled markets, and Tom you must recognize the drug markets are not in any way "free markets," there is a kind of price war going on now in heroin. Without the Taliban, poppy production has made a comeback with the Afghans. Does this make you proud of the "democracy" we have brought to this country?
