You imply that the players in this game consist of oil company lobby groups on one side and the Sierra Club and a few college professors on the other. You really think you can get away with that?
The Federal government alone spends about $7 billion on climate change (2009 number). That's just one source of funding, in one country.
Every dollar has gone to people, organizations, and yes, businesses, who have a lot to gain from climate change being a crisis and a lot to lose if it isn't.
The global carbon trading system, at last count, was floating at the $176 billion mark. Another sector that really doesn't want the crisis to go away.
Sidebar:
American Petroleum Institute annual revenues (2010): About $180 million.
Sierra Club annual revenues (2011): About $47 million.
And then the ham-fisted psychoanalysis again. People can decide for themselves who to take seriously.
