I understand. It's hard not to explode at some of the stunts pulled here - I am very civil until I reach my breaking point, and then it is simply not pretty - given the shear number of human lives involved, the tension is pretty great, and I am really looking forward to the long meeting between Drs. Mazanek with Griffin -
One current problem with the small comet fragments, which are d*****d dark, is the resolution of the infra-red telescopes currently being planned - they will probably provide some good initial estimates, assuming that something does not hit us first and bring this impact rate debate to a rather abrupt end - and the image handling and image processing will have to be looked after too -
However many of them there are, Mazanek's detection system could provide mankind with the best possible warning system, bar none - I am really hoping that NASA Langley regains some of its old in-house system analysis status within NASA - it would be d**n difficult for the beltway boys to lobby down there without being conspicuous -
formidable tasks lie ahead, of which I seem to have stumbled into my own share - this all started out as a simple op-ed piece, really, many, many years ago -
thanks,
