What is the species that for the first time in the history of the planet that might be able to stop it? While I am disturbed by the environmental damage humans have done, I can't believe that so many have an anti-humanity stance. It is also humans that have highlighted these issues and humans that have addressed many of them. The damage we have done is minute compared to obviously natural mass extinctions. We certainly have the potential address impact caused mass extinctions and possibly others. I see preventing supervolcano eruptions among potential future ecosystem saving technologies. I also believe that terraforming Mars will lead to better stewardship of Earth through a better understanding of ecology. The idea that somehow nature is good no matter what and mankind is bad is really stupid given that we are a product of natural evolution.
