The flaws are obvious now

Look at how the Security Council was originally organized. I might have my facts wrong but I believe the original Security Council was:

Soviet Union
France
China (actually Taiwan)
England
US

At the time, Taiwan was a client state. France was originally perceived as a client to England and the US (DeGaul's government was installed by the victorious allies). The Soviet Union was put in the ridiculous position of almost always exercising its veto in a 4-1 vote. The whole thing was obviously designed to serve as a propaganda spectacle. The Soviet Union agreed to it because it gave them equal stature with the US and England.

The Security Council is now organized as:

Russia (a failed super power)
Red China (the emerging world power)
France representing the EU
England (a former Empire)
US
A gaggle of minor countries with no veto power

It's a different beast but still performing its old function as a propaganda spectacle. The General Assembly is and shall continue to be a joke. The UN needs to be reformed into something closer to NATO that involves all nations of the world. Maybe the answer is to dump the UN and upgrade NATO.
