Okay, response in Kind, Larry....
Look, this is exactly the same kind of response I get from pseudoscientists when I back them into a corner- hyperbolic, emotional and full of implications.
Are you going to tell me to open my mind or think outside the box next?
This is interesting from someone who once threatened, on this board, to take a trench knife to people who made attributions about moral character when they couldn't win on merit of argument.
I also think this is, in a nutshell, how your response to the Iraq question played out. Insistance about WMD and terrorism, and then a fall-back to emotional righteousness and platitudes (freedom, patriotism, we're the good guys in the world, standing up to bullies etc) when fact failed you.
But lets pick through this trash heap you wrote and see what we can see.
"I'm not the one arguing for her death. You are.
Oh, am I, Larry? I hadn't noticed. Last time I checked I was arguing for the rights of spouses to make care-giver decisions for their partners, and refuting the Myth and Nonsense about (1) the 'disabled' status of TS and (2) The lies and innuendo smeared here and elsewhere about the Husband.
TS being cortically brain dead certainly applies to my point- that Mr. Schiavo is acting within his rights and it is WRONG of us to interfere, EXPECIALLY since it is fact that TS in in a PVS.
"She was a severly handicapped woman, but she had no life threatening condition other than a husband who wanted her dead."
That TS is merely 'a severly handicapped woman' is your opinion, is not backed up by fact, is something that you are unable to support, is belief. Pure and simple. I have challenged you on it, debated you on it, and when pushed you have devolved into this emotional and pompous tirade. Just like Iraq, I am sorry to say, you are insisting that your belief and righteousness be the unquestioned hitching post to tie the lives of other people to. Sell that crud elsewhere, I'm not buying it.
"This was no different than a death penalty case based in hearsay evidence. "
Except that its not, at all. This is a really bad analogy. Try something else.
"after he won a very large malpractice lawsuit"
A slander I have already exposed as a lie here.
"there was no reason for her to die other than his word against that of her parents. They were willing to accept the full responsibility for her care. Somehow, that wasn't good enough."
As the husband, he was within his rights. Medically, she is already dead in every way that counts. The fantasy of the parents backed up by right wing zealotry should not trumph his rights under the law. Its a crime he had to fioght for that right for 10 years.
Its a due finding of numerous courts, and of independent parties such as the ethicist hired by Jeb Bush that Terri unabiguously and without doubt expressed her will on this to multiple people.
"f any court in America sentenced a convicted murderer to suffer death by dehydration and starvation, that sentence would immediately be rejected as "cruel and unusual punishment.""
And if the right-to-life jackals would step aside, medical euthenasia would be permissible. But thatnks to the pious christian agenda of US vs Oregon, of Bush and Ashcroft, that day has not yet come. Until then, if you want THAT law changed, argue that elsewhere. Its irrelevant here.
"If any court in America sentenced a convicted murderer on hearsay evidence, it would without a doubt be thrown out on appeal."
Really, you think so? You are a pretty sheltered whiteman then. History is replete with black men in the south dying for hearsay, but again, this is an attempt to divert into a proxy argument, and is irrelevant.
"There are several worthwhile efforts such as the Innocence Project "
And until it suited your agenda, I bet you would have derided them as 'Dolphin Riders' and I also bet that you never visited that website before the Schiavo case.
"Nothing like that happened in this case."
Wow, you wrote something right.
" If you feel differently, then more the pity for you."
Crushed, really. I am just Crushed. You sure told me! I'll get right back to you as soon as I revise my approach to life.
