The event horizon being a wonderful rug under which to sweep uncertainty....

Thanks for the information- all completely outside my skill set- but thanks anyway.

I think, if I recall the history I know, the opponents of the idea of Black Holes were originally suspicious of the notion of an event horizon- The event horizon is a boundary from which no observation returns...

If the two theories end up equally consistent with observations outside the horizon, equally consistent with other cosmological notions and equally consistent with data gathered from other observations, then the whole thing may be empirically undecidable. A cosmological halting problem of sorts.

It would be rather amusing if we ended up with some number of cosmological theories that each described the universe equally well- and then to find ourself in the position that the only way to ever know which one was the correct model was to make observations beyond the event horizon of a Black Hole.

Sounds like a 'Mad Scientist' story in the making.
