re: We confront things where we find them. Even in obscure places.

"Thus: slander must be confronted where it has been found."

You of course mean possible slander must be confronted.

"Slander does nothing to help in the discovery of abuse and criminal behavior, but does tend to make enemies where there were mere rivals before."

What specifically are you claiming is slander?

"If you are suggesting that affording legal protection to employees in the face of sometimes frivolous and sometimes discriminatory termination is the same as obstructing justice in any form, you are dead wrong."

If you are suggesting that teacher should be permitted kiss and have sex students, you are dead wrong.

"From the article:

Another teacher spotted the two in the hot-and-heavy embrace and told the principal, authorities said.

Hardly a photograph. Have you ever been falsely accused of something for personal reasons? Is this woman not entitled to due process?"

This is not slander, unless this "other" teacher did not actually tell the principal this.

"The Education Department will seek to fire her if she is convicted, a spokesman said. [emphasis mine]."

You are suggesting that in order to fire a teacher, one is required to take the teacher to court. I am all for an investigation to determine whether the teacher is actually behaving in a manner that would led others to believe that this teach is engaging in sexual behaviour with her students, but this much different than requiring something be taken to a court of law.

"As they should."

No they shouldn't. We can't have a society in which every decision about whether to hire or fire a person must be a matter for the courts to decide. What exactly does a principle do, is her/her job merely to determine whether a cases needs to taken to trial?

"No mention of an ACLU defense, and they won't touch this one unless there are factors not revealed in the article that include some serious Constitutional violation."

Maybe the ACLU thinks sex between teacher and students is something that should be permitted. Hey I know people who think it should be almost be a requirement and that sex between students and teacher is natural and helpfully to the teaching process. We could bring in international stardards, we can look back in history. There is no end of crap you can throw this, and maybe you can find a judge that agrees with one of your points.

"The teachers' union to which she belongs may very well provide counsel; it's the kind of thing that teachers' dues pay for. It should not be construed to mean that teachers' unions support abusive and criminal behavior, but that teachers are also entitled to legal representation in court, even though some people think they are the scum of the Earth. "

What happens if a teacher is always late to class or drinks before class so they drunk when teaching. Does this need to be taken to court.

"Please be reminded that the "bad apples" that principals could get rid of with impunity before intervention by such horrible organizations as you mention included: pregnant women, including the married ones; people who practiced minority religions and took days off to support their religious practice; people of the wrong race; people whose sexual orientation was questioned; people who recommended testing to parents of struggling students even though it would cost the school district money; people who spoke as private citizens on political matters that disagreed with school positions, although they conformed to policy while at work. Ah, the good old days! "

So, the moral of the story is teachers who want to have sex with students should join a religion where this is acceptable practice.
Know, I'm disappointed in slowness of our capitialistic culture, people should be manufacturing a wide range of religions to meets need of people who have special needs.
