The slander is that the ACLU and teachers' unions have been connected with this incident by a poster here ...

...when no such connection exists. That's not possible slander, but actual slander.

You have no clue what this is about.

A teacher has been accused of an action that is a crime. Are you saying she should be fired because she is accused? Is her character to be impeached and her job taken away on the unsworn say-so of one other person, whose motives we know nothing about? Are you saying she has no right to due process? Are you saying that teachers can and ought to be fired for any reason whatsoever, or none at all, thus providing no job security whatsoever?

What other reasons would there be to fire this teacher? Has she not performed her job properly? Has she had negative evaluations? Or does documentation of job performance not apply to teachers?

The article is clear: if she is convicted of a crime involving a student, the Department of Education will fire her. And so they should. If they have other reasons to fire her, they can just document them in accordance with her contract, which I'm sure she has.

The ACLU has said nothing about this. The teachers' union has said nothing about this that has been reported. The only one that has connected the two organizations with this case is Phil. Unless he picked it up somewhere.

Drunkenness and other forms of unprofessional behavior not involving arrest are doubtless covered in the terms of the teachers' contract, which governs terms of employment, job evaluation, and termination of employment.

Teachers deserve civil rights too. They work hard and do a very difficult job, which I doubt you could do. They deserve to be able to work and to be protected from discrimination and character assassination in the workplace. They also deserve to be able to get legal representation if they are accused of committing crimes. We still approach suspects in criminal activities as innocent until proven guilty in this country, even if the suspect is a teacher. You may think that this is old-fashioned and unfortunate; I do not.

And for you, the moral of the story is to learn to read English properly and stop trying to be cute. You have not succeeded at either.
