Now, you and I both know you would be howling bloody murder if our people were being captured and treated like that...
Oh and to stop you before you try the predictable- yeah, the other side has done worse, so what? Behaving in a moral fashion is NOT about being somewhat less evil than others. I know how you hate moral relativism, so I know you have too much integrity to try to make the "but the other side does worse!" argument, right?
Oh, far be it from me to make such an argument.
But I wish to God that American prisoners were treated one tenth as well as we have treated other prisoners. It's worth remembering that captured U.S. troops in many different conflicts haven't been treated according to the Geneva convention for well over half a century.
In fact, I wonder if the U.S. hasn't been the ONLY nation that actually adheres to it.
Still leaves the basic question:
To get information out of a dedicated and fanatical prisoner who does not wish to supply it requires that you make him in some way unhappy with where he is and what's happening to him. I'm open for suggestions. I'd love to use Vulcan Mind Melds on these guys, but Vulcans are hard to come by.
I have heard that a couple of prisoners have been "converted" by a long process of Muslim philosophical argument (no sarcasm--true. Just don't remember the source). Hey, whatever works. But you have to have SOMETHING.
I'm still amazed after all these years that we apparently don't have an effective truth serum.
