How the hell DO you interrogate someone who doesn't want to cooperate?
You start by following the rules that you have agreed to. You keep in mind that YOUR side claims to be morally superior, and you try to act like that claim is justified.
I am sure we could get a lot more information by feeding prisoners feet first into a shredding machine- but then that is what Saddam did- we claim we are better than that.
Again, you are against moral relativism, right?
Taking the moral high ground means making sacrifices, accepting that you will pay a price by living by the rules you hold important. History is full of people that are reviled for professing a moral code and then violating that code to get what they want. The people that tortured and killed innocent people to fight the enemy of witchcraft threw away their moral code in an effort to defeat what they considered a terrible enemy. Their actions are now viewed with disgust.
If behaving in a moral fashion was easy and got you all you wanted, then there really would be no reason to respect moral action, would there? Morality is all about placing restrictions on yourself in order to honor an ideal.
So, yes, we wont get all we want from prisoners if we tie our hands by behaving in a moral fashion. I think the alternative is worse...
Don't you agree?
