I'm looking into it, just out of curiosity, but I have a couple of off-the-cuff comments:

Obviously, they carried a minimum of weight. Also, this copter's minimum hover ceiling (lightly loaded) is 18,000 feet, which implies that it has some oomph that the helicopters around Mauna Kea don't.
