There are one hell of a lot of uses for helicopters capable of good performance at high altitudes. Remember, being able to put one guy on top of Everest translates to a helicopter capable of doing a lot of useful work at more moderate altitudes.
The Everest thing was just to make a point. Kind of like Spaceship One.
