Pissed again? Re:String Theory

Am I missing something about this constant barrage on String Theory?

Is it now fasionable for conservative minded folks to rip on it? This trend is evocative of the NAZI denunciation of relativity as jewish science, an incomplete and untested theory at that time. Only now with muon decay observation, GPS, and soon with Gravity Probe B will aspects of this widely accepted theory become "proven".

This might make sense as several of the pioneers of the theory are well known as liberals, but would seem to have little to do with the merits of the theory itself.

Yes it's not well connected to reality with testable assertions. Am I to believe that this the moral failing of the theorists cause they're not working hard enough? If valid, it's too far advanced than what our technology can build an experiment to test. Theories like QCD moved forward with a walk that used the one leg of theory and one leg of experiment. Whos fault is it if this theory isn't able to found another field of engineering yet?

Phis sez with much humility: "Gotta luv theorists who propose TESTABLE hypothethies."

You make it sound as if this is a choice and not a constraint of the state of understanding of the field. A testable hypothesis is possible with the Lorentz contraction phenomena because it's standing on the shoulders of modern physics work of the past century....
