How was SR/GR proven by the 30's? Aspects made sense but it was very untested.

I'm not sure of my dates but Einstein's relativity predictions of Mercury's orbit displacement was confirmed by eclipse observarions circa 1919 or so. Strictly from memory so dates may be wrong. Relativity was accepted in the scientific community before the 30s.
