"Afghanistan was a no-brainer. The country harbored the man who murdered nearly 3,000 American citizens. The Taliban refused to give him up to face justice. I have stated here many times that I unequivocally support our military action against Afghanistan's taliban regime. "
So invade a country over one guy?
Maybe he wasn't in Afghanistan?
Maybe the taliban felt there was no international law which required them to give up a citizen because some country alleges he murdered 3000 people. So what international law is this that allows another country to invade because it alleges there is a mass murderer in the country somewhere?
"A competent administration would have completed its work in Afghanistan before going off on some reckless adventure in Iraq."
Well, according your way seeing things, there was a terrorist in Iraq that murdered people that we wanted.
And isn't the "work" in Afghanistan finished? Is Afghanistan less "finished" than Kosavo. Was the work "finished" in Kosavo before invading Afghanistan?
"A comptent administration would have taken care not to jeapardize our success in Afghanistan by stretching our forces to their limits in some unjustified invasion of Iraq."
It's good training, didn't we want to be able to fight two major wars at one time- wasn't that sort of Powell's doctrine?
"A competent administration would have captured Osama Bin Laden."
A competent administration would taken him when is was offered as a prisoner. It doesn't require much skill to hide in the mountains and aviod being detected. Because Osama Bin Laden is a stupid coward, he has already taken himself out of the game. He could already be dead; but he is effectively dead for last few years.
I suppose Don thinks it would be good idea to use tens of thousands to troops looking for him in a rugged land area millions of sq miles. You could use the entire US miltary and still not find him. With this level of competence Osama Bin Laden could defeat the US miltary merely by hiding. This isn't a competent plan.
A competent plan is to keep the pressure on. And the best thing to happenned with Osama Bin Laden is to let him fade away. If we actually got lucky and caught this guy. What then? He would get the finest medical care in the world, and would fatten on honey and dates. And would be in the world spotlight like a Micheal Jackson. Be glad he is a stupid coward, he could quite easily do something that would help his cause instead he is becoming a forgotten footnote in history.
