"Geoff: "So invade a country over one guy?"
My Reply: Well, since this "one guy" was responsible for the murder of nearly 3,000 Americans and was no doubt planning the demise of more under the protective eye of the Taliban, yes, absolutely. Apparently you don't think so."
So apparently Afghanistan was a failure because this one guy wasn't captured. Nevermind the millions of Afghanistans freed from an oppressive regime. Apparently Don thinks this is some minor issue as compared to getting one guy into a prison cell and having the mother of all court cases.
"You are failing to connect the dots. The invasion of Afghanistan was justified by the deliberate attack on Americans on American soil. That's a clear cause for war. Meanwhile, the invasion of Iraq was "justified" by the false assertion that Saddam had chemical and biologicial weapons that did not actually exist. That's not."
Are you saying that Afghanistan which is land locked and halfway across the globe is a threat in terms of attacking us on American soil? No, obviously for you war has nothing to do with future threat, you are only interested in doing things which are based upon revenge.
Now suppose I was a drug dealer with billions in cash and I live in Brazil and I have one major drug operation in Columbia and a smaller operation in Afghanistan. My major problems are not police officers wherever in the world they may be, my major problems are political and other competitors in my business. What I really need are people working for me who have are popular with the people in the local areas where I'm running my operation- farming and processing. What is ideal is a dingbat who is popular. And I can make him more popular by giving a few million which he can spend enriching his followers [and I buy access to this political figure]. I also buy more normal politicans in afghanistan, because I need them to expand my operation there mainly to do with infrastructure details].
In afghanistan we have this really old and sacred tradition of protecting our guests. So generally it wise to be careful who you make your guest- the idea of police and nation states is a pretty alien concept to most people living in Afghanistan- particular in areas I want to farm and process my drugs.
Ok, enough story telling. Osama Bin Laden is a dingbat. Oh, he has his hobbies. He is interested in building fortified houses. He thinks he is a Messiah. Etc.
But he is essentially a rich kid as about as westernized as Michale Jackson and was about as significant as Michale Jackson. Btw, currently, Osama Bin Laden is about as important as Michale Jackson living in a cave. Jackson can dance really well. Laden understands and does the Islam thing really well. Jackson can sound caring and compassionate, Laden can sound caring and compassionate. Both are psychotic. Both have advisors and handlers. Both have fan clubs. Now you could say that OBL's fan club was more "interactive" than most fan clubs, afterall one of his hobbies was world domination/Messiah thing, so the fans were useful in this regard.
Now, it's really the fan club which killed 3000 Americans, and most of the actual members directly involved came from Saudi Arabia [which is a country which sponsors a very shallow religion they say is the true Islam- and this fundemental Islam is about as fundemental as Jackson's dancing].
So, what we are looking at is a worldwide cult with no shortage of idiots who want to fly airlines into building. And Saudi Arabia leadership has strong interest in Airline industry- and there is also this American connection that nobody seems to talk about much. [You got to understand these nuts are really *interested* in symbols- they worship symbols. So OBL was probably getting orgasms regarding this plan and particularly tying it to Saudi Arabia (which betrayed him {revenge is so sweet} and the hated Americans {which probably betrayed him in numerous ways}]. THe problem isn't cults or even this particular cult- we have zillions of cults in America. And can't stop cults and anymore than you can stop rain. The problem is you people who have more money than they know what to do with it, living in land filled with oppressive goverments whose only solution seems to be to blame America for it's problems- 24hr/7 days a week/year in year out.
