You know, I've gone over this again and again and again.
Do you honestly think our government hasn't tried its damnedest to get other nations involved here? The ones who are willing are already there. Most of the ones who are not would not help if Franklin Roosevelt asked them.
The idea that Bush could do "something"--what it is is never made exactly clear--that would bring Europe more into the Iraq War than they already are, is sheer and complete batshit. What could even President Kerry have offered France to get them to send troops? If we get even financial or training assistance, it will be a miracle.
Do you honestly think France and Germany want this war to be won? What on Earth would they have to gain by helping out in Iraq? It's not only no skin off their noses if Iraq falls, but as a bonus, if Iraq falls, a president their leadership hates will fall with it. Why is this so difficult to understand? The inability to see the actual motivations involved in this controversy is the biggest blind spot that well-meaning liberals have.
Same goes for the motivations of most Democratic Party leaders.
It's as ridiculous as assuming, during the racial controversies of the 50s and 60s, that those calling for "separate but equal" facilities were actually interested in making sure blacks had access to good facilities.
