He lived to see the space shuttle... I had a grandmother that rode a horse to school.... today we have educational websites and programs made for preschoolers....
I now have on my lap a few pounds of computing power that could outperform any university's entire computer facility when I was a kid (and I am just 33 years old)... just 7 years ago I actually had to go to a library to look up papers, A serious literature search on a topic could take a day or two... today I can search hundreds of journals for keywords and get results in a few seconds... How many generations could have 33 year olds saying how the world was so different when they were kids? Until a few generations ago the world you were born into was pretty much the world you died in... no real change... now change is expected...
100 years ago comets were very much a mystery, now we are sending probes to them and driving little cars on mars- Our creations now litter the surface of the moon, venus, mars, Eros, Jupiter and Titan, and some of our probes are leaving the solarsystem. Our abilities are growing exponentially- what will we live to see?
We humans have our problems, but we ARE pretty damn amazing...
