I also presume if an ETI were trying to contact us, they would make the signal as obviously artificial and easy to understand as possible. So explain to me please why the coding?
And of course we are assuming that an alien species has the same motivations as we do - which I suppose if they had become technological requires at least some level of scientific curiousity.
