In 1964 I was in the Army and worked at the Redstone Arsenal closed circuit TV facility, which is used to train troops in missile electronics. Since we were the only people with remote TV equipment in the area we were hired by CBS to help them produce a show on the progress of the Apollo moon program. I was with a crew at the Marshal Space Flight Center, which is on the other side of the hill from Redstone, to view 2 rocket motor tests, and the roll out of the first test article of the Saturn 5 S1C stage. I got to see Wernher Von Braun as he was there to be interviewed. While there I talking with some of the NASA people and one of them stated that they had considered solid rockets for the Saturn 5, but that NASA doesn't like solids and scotched that quickly. I kind of wish they had stuck to their guns on that when they developed the shuttle and developed liquid fueled boosters instead of the SRBs. I'm not a big fan of the SRBs.
