A simple question: Whatever happened to the nerve gas shells in Iraq?

In 1991, Saddam Hussein's government signed an agreement in which it
1. Admitted possessing several thousand nerve gas shells.
2. Promised to present a complete list of their inventory.
3. Promised to destroy these shells and to document their destruction with place, time, and manner of destruction.

We know that number 1 was true, since such shells were used against Kurdish rebels by the Ba'athis government. Numbers 2 and 3 were never carried out.

Nerve gas shells are very distinctive in structure. They generally have two compartments separated by a leak-tight diaphragm that burst upon boost, permitting the binary ingredients to mingle during flight as the shell spins rapidly. They also contain a small high explosive bursting charge to disperse the poison above the target, along with a proximity fuse to assure detonation well above the ground for maximum effect.

One does not just put nerve gas shells into the nearest dumpster. Even if that had been done, the shells would still be available in the dump site. If shells had been put into holes in the ground and either exploded or burned, the remnants would still be accessible. If the stuff had been dismantled, the pieces would be somewhere.

Iraq has been searched extensively and no caches of poison gas shells were found. In addition, no disposal sites filled with destroyed shells have been found either. No records of destruction of these shells was found either.
