NASA's first report on architecture studies

http://www.thespacereview.com/article/418/1

Well, damn, it turned out that NASA used the SFF's Return to the Moon conference to make a presentation. For some reason, this was not reported in the space press. Like me, they all probably expected the usual SFF nonsense.

The interesting thing here is the "9 EELVs" required for each manned Moon mission in the earlier study. My guess is that's because ATK menaged to put forward mission requirements that would require the use of Heavy Lift. In particular, ATK requires that the infrastructure be launched each time for each mission.

This is a bogus bit of wiring by ATK. The actual mission mass requirements are those set out by Mazanek's team. And that includes work crews, construction equipment, and time on surface.

Further, as it is, NASA does not have the money to do it. At least, they don't have the money to do it alone.

This is bullshit, to use one of Suander Kramer's favortie words. It is flags and footprints on the Moon, and it ignores all of Langley's work, and more importantly, it ignores dealing with the impact hazard.

Here's the architecture:

But instead of the shuttle, you have the EELV heavies, and/or the ATK shuttle derivatives. Either NASA and the US will lead on this, or others will.
