Flame » in reply to Typo, maroon!

That is why I asked if you read what you posted....

Does a laser engineer have insight into the world beyond lasers? Enough insight to be an arbiter, for instance?

I dont know... fixing and aligning lasers is really the simple and relaxing part of my job, I have never had a class in lasers... I really wouldnt classify myself as a laser engineer- I just seem to have a pretty good feel for laser systems.

As for knowing more than lasers, well- The two jobs I have held have required me to learn things in many areas... plumbing, cryogenics, vacuum technology, chemistry, hydrodynamics, plasma physics, electrodynamics, electrostatics, material science, special relativity, fiber optics, quantum mechanics, atomic physics, and pretty much anything involving lasers...

If I was the world expert on lasers (Which I am no where near being) and totally ignorant on all other areas of reality I would not have been able to get my first job, much less the one I am working at now.

What is your gripe? You tried to attack me ineptly, completely flubbed it, and I called you on it- too bad...

Some would say the ability to manipulate numbers and formulae doesn't necessarily translate into wisdom regarding the human experience. The childish gloating over a typographical error would seem to demonstrate that, wouldn't it?

Ahh... I MISS the days of manipulating numbers and formulae...

Hmmm, If you want to compare 'human experiences' feel free to play- It was not at all clear that it was a typo... I have learned not to underestimate some people's ignorance...
