Anyway just to chime in, I have always thought that racism is utterly stupid but racism and prejudice are two different problems.
I have always judged people on the content of their character and not the color of their skin or their accent when speaking a second language. I am prejudiced against pants on the ground thugs and counter culturalists when that culture promotes ignorance and criminal behavior.
I have made my share of mistakes and I have learned not to use pejoratives in the way that happened to you. I used the terms cavalierly when I was young in the same context that you did. That was stupid of me. Whenever I used the terms in anger, In my own mind I felt they would have applied to any person of rotten character and not any particular race. I was wrong because any hurtful term that requires an explanation should have never been used in the first place.
Anyway prejudice is simply disliking something. It is wrong to be prejudiced against any group that is not shooting at you and are trying to do good. To end the rambling, sometimes that is difficult and we all make mistakes.
