Isaac’s Storm- similarities with Katrina

I have been reading Isaac’s Storm, a story about Isaac Cline and the Galveston storm of 1900.

I strongly recommend this book. I think most people here would find it a good read.

I see a lot of similarities between what happened then and what happened with Katrina.

During the summer of 1900 a heat wave backed the northeastern US much like it did this summer. Many people died from the heat.

Then there is the obvious similarity where Katrina nearly destroys New Orleans much like the 1900 storm did to Galveston.

In the 1900, man thought science could conquer Nature. This is one reason we had the Titanic disaster. Isaac This was the same arrogance and confidence that kept Isaac from evacuating Galveston. And I think this same arrogance that man is above nature is way so many people thought they could weather the storm in New Orleans.

We have not changed much in 100 years.
