If were were to write to each displaced person a check for $250,000 to spend as they see fit, wouldn't we spend less than we are going to spend "Rebuilding New Orleans"? I heard a number of 400,000 displaced/homeless people. Well if we are going to spend $100 Billion $$$s. That would translate to roughly $250,000 per victim.
Cut out the wasteful bueracracy. Cut out FEMA. Cut out the Crooked Louisiana politicians. Cut out the Reverend Jackson. Just write a check to each victim.
Think about it...Just give each displaced indiviual $250,000. What more could they expect? Its more money than most people would save in an entire lifetime.
A displaced couple...a check for $500,000.
A displaced family of four...a check for $1,000,000.
They could return to New Orleans if they want, or they could take their new found wealth and relocate to Beverly Hills if they wanted...Who are we to judge how they should spend their money.
Now there is Compassionate Conservatism!!!
Oh, there will be one catch...Before recieving the check from Uncle same, each adult over the age of majority must 1st sign an agreement that if they use the Money relocate to New Orleans or some other flood prone area (defined as an area where in you are required to obtain flood insurance to qualify for a federal home mortgage program), that they will never again apply for federal flood or Hurricane assistance. Any further assistance from future flooding events will need to come from private flood insurance.
Congratulations to the people of New Orleans. You all have just won the lottery.
