Expanding space

Hi RobVG

The light left less than a billion years AFTER the Big Bang and so has been travelling for 13 billion years - but while it's been travelling the Universe has been expanding too. The actual distance from the quasar to us is now more like 28 billion light years.

Prof. Ned Wright has an <a href="http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~wright/CosmoCalc.html>; online calculator which gives a distance of 27.868 Gly at a red-shift of 6.29 for a flat Universe. He also explains the various distances in detail.
