I had presumed that my comment was to be taken in the light-hearted manner that it was meant - that often in SF (I won't dare say "Sci-Fi", don't worry, I've seen way too many geek battles over that one) death is just something to overcome eventually, usually by the methods I wrote about.
I too like good science in my science fiction, but thankfully my devoted Star Trek days are past (Paramount took a good thing and drove it into the ground, not to mention Galaxy Quest summed up my feelings on the whole fan/cult thing quite well). I haven't seen Serentiy or the incredibly short television series it came from. So I guess it is hard for me to get wrapped up about the fates of a bunch of fictional characters in any event. I just don't have that kind of time to devote any more.
So to sum up - I was trying to be funny and I wasn't trying to slight Serenity/Firefly/Star Trek/Gilligan's Island. And I'm sure as heck not going to get into a geek battle over a bunch of fictional characters that I don't know anything about outside of what I have read - and quite frankly, I'd like to see a REAL SF series that does not involve a bunch of humans that are really just a bunch of young white early-21st Century Americans flying around in unreal spaceships cracking wise.
I got my light saber ready....
