The word "lunatic" came into popular usage in the late 1700's or oearly 1800's, if I remember correctly. It seems that insanity often manifested itself then with talk about men in the Moon or voyages to the Moon. In some respects these "lunatics" were very similar to our "Mars Enthusiasts" of today.

Unfortunately, the Martian symptoms are not apparent, or easily identified, in today's society. If that were the case, it would save me a lot of needless frustration.

I could only wish that the HZ's "Mars Enthusiasts" would be forced to read through page after page about socialist man's (in the sense of "stalinist") destiny in the stars, or man's destiny to spread socialism (again, "stalinism") thoughout the solar system, for as long as took for them to give up their space utopianism.
