I happen to agree with you. The paper in question has an almost light-hearted attitude about such a search, even a sense of fun, while asking the question of Was our Universe created, if so by who or what, and did they leave any clues as to their existence?
In addition, the "God" they are looking for is not the supernatural one, but goes on the concept that our Universe was created by advanced but not omnipotent beings, a theory I find plausible.
