rMy old college Observatory was watching Tempel 1's Deep Impact

Here is some related news from the SFASU observatory, were I worked for three years in college

Their main page. I usually saw this place in the dark. It hasn’t changed much. I don’t remember that little dome being there. That must be housing the new 10” scope. I love the new 8” scopes they have gotten. We used to use the long tube ones shown in the second from bottom pictures.

We had these metal boxes covering the mounts for those 8” scopes. I got good at unscrewing the metal boxes and screwing on the scopes in the dark. Then one night I felt some very strong spider webs. I turned on my flashlight in looked in the box and was horrified to see two black widows just inches from where my hands had just been. Who knew Astronomy could be hazardous?

Observatory from the air. I spent many night there.
