re: Some missing shots

The attitude of no cameras on manned space missions goes way back. Remember, this was the same NASA that didn't think astronauts would care for or need a window on Mercury - what would they want to look at outside?

I do not recall the exact mission, but a Mercury astronaut had to purchase and bring with him his own Hasselblad camera on his space mission. Perhaps we are just spoiled today both with knowing how beautiful things look in space and how easy it is to use lightweight imaging equipment these days.

And if you recall some of the "old" SF stories on the first manned lunar landing, at best the astronauts considered simply radioing back to Earth that they had made it to the Moon and would tell their stories once they came home. Perhaps that attitude still existed by Apollo.
