I hadn't really noticed that the proposal called for converting mortgage interest from a deduction to a tax credit, until Reich pointed it out. That makes a big difference in evaluating the impact of the proposal--better and better.
But as he notes, there's going to be a tsunami of opposition from several million people who feed at this trough. Homeowners might be generally disgruntled about it, but the realtors and the brokers and the appraisers and the title companies and, above all, the lenders have the resources to get organized and fight for their pork.
Reich concludes by offering "two cheers" to the Bush Regime for finally coming up with a good idea...one that's guaranteed to be politically DOA. Oh the humanity...
