It's not about embarresment, it's about goals and motivation. I don't think "hollywood liberals" are making a grass roots attempt to take control of political institutions throughout the country.
You know the old phrase "the rich aren't crazy, they're eccentric." Well, there in L.A. you have a large group of generally liberal, rich people. Anethema to the generally more conservative monied groups of bankers, industrialists and old money inheritors.
I'd say I'm more embarresed for the country when Pat Robertson says that the boogie man from the sky is gonna get Dover, PA than when some dramatis personae decides in his/her 40's to try to change the world for the better by making a damn fool of themselves in a civic forum.
The two aren't equivalent, at, all.
