Stolen from Patrick O'Brian (and paraphrased from memory):
Captain "Lucky Jack" Aubrey and his best friend, ship's doctor Steven Maturin, are at table with the other officers. Someone breaks open a piece of hardtack, from which crawl a pair of weevils -- inevitable in His Majesty's Navy at the time. One immediately started squirming around; the other barely moves at all.
Aubrey: Now, Steven... If you were asked to select one of those in favor of the other, which would you choose?
Maturin: If brought to it, I should have to choose that robust one. It seems much more capable of survival...
Aubrey: Ah, yes -- but perhaps you have heard that it's always wiser to choose the lesser of two weevils?
