I think I might be in favor of crystal diffraction

On macroscopic scales, a fresnel plate is a series of concentric rings cut out of an opaque plate. The interference pattern of a beam of light created by this set of diffraction gratings will behave like a lens, focussing it much like a real lens.

I believe crystal structures have been used to generate diffraction patterns from gamma ray beams. It would be some super nano-fabrication to create a fresnel plate lens for a gamma ray beam, but my instinct is telling me it might be a very cool idea.
