re: Good grief.

The action in Afghanistan made sense in my mind although I think we failed when we were hot on Osama's tail to give too much of the responsibility for the hunt to the Afghanis. I really feel that the administration during those early Afghan adventures was too obsessed with Iraq to keep their eyes on the prize.

We keep acting like this hit on America could be attributed to some country. Even the citizens of Afghanistan really weren't responsible for this other than the fact that they didn't rise up successfully against the Taliban. Afghanistan was really a country without a government in those days leading up to 9/11. Our fight was a policing action with thugs and criminals and not really a military action against an organized country. How we ever allowed it to become this all out occupation of Iraq is beyond me. I guess we can attribute it to the mindset in a quote (and I'm paraphrasing since I don't have it in front of me) by Rumsfeld in which he stated that one of his desires to go into Iraq was because there were not enough rich military targets in Afghanistan.
