That's what many religions are worried about - except for the Buddhists, naturally.
If many of those so inclined ever bothered just to take an astronomy course, let alone wait for some advanced ETI drop in for a visit, that alone might be enough to make them re-evaluate things.
But I think the ones who, instead of fearing new knowledge, take all the wonders of the Universe being found every day as more evidence of just how amazing life/existence/God is have a far healthier outlook on things and don't contribute to religion's often lacking reputation.
Here's a good quote from Carl Sagan from this site:
http://www.pantheism.net/
"A religion old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science, might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths.
Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge."
