re: I don't believe it.
Try riding a motorcycle during rush hour..
ROFL< R.L., sounds like you've had the same experience as I have!
At one time, back when I could afford such things, I owned a Harley Electraglide. Complete with fairing, dual headlights, the whole 9 yards. Headlights were full time on. A mod I made myself, wasn't standard back then. It was BFR* in color. Anyone who's ever even seen on of those old monsters knows how big they are ... for a scoot.
(If you drop one of those beasts, well, go get some help, you ain't picking that beast up by yourself............... Don't ask me how I know this)
One fine summer afternoon I was riding along a residential street, moving at no more than 25 MPH or so. Now, I’d been riding a long time by then, and had learned that a lot of 'thim thar peeples' who drove cars didn’t see motorcycles all the time.
I saw the Buick Electra pull up at the intersection half a block ahead of me. No stop sign on my road, but I slowed down anyway. The surface was the standard oil-and-chat Oklahoma cities use to cheap-out on resurfacing side streets.
The blue-hair driving that oversized ship of a car stopped, looked both ways, including right at me..
And, inevitably, pulled out in front of me.
I grabbed some serious brakes, swinging my ride sideways by locking the rear. Stopping half a ton of motorcycle fast on loose chat is tricky. Luckily I did it without dropping my ride. Maybe two feet from the driver’s door. Partly by slamming my steely toed Wellington into the center of said door. Put one really big dent in it too.
The woman, who must have wet herself, rolled down her window, looked at me, and said it.
“Where did you come from! I didn’t see you!”
Later, when the cops showed up, the officer asked me how fast I was going. I told him. She objected, said I had to be doing better than forty.
I didn’t say a word, just pointed at the obvious skid. He looked at the skid, at me, then her.
As he handed her a ticket for ‘Failure to Yield’ He told her I couldn’t have been doing more than 20. And if she couldn’t see a Bright Red motorcycle with its headlights shining on a clear day from half a block away he might have to recommend a review of her fitness to operate a motor vehicle.
(Side note, I knew this particular cop, he had exactly zero use for motorcycles, and less for anyone who rode one.)
