Your assertion is silly

Or, how about your original point was simply stupid? Is that better?

Once again with the historical correction: FDR wasn't a cripple when he was Asst. Secretary of the Navy. He served in that position from 1913-1920. He contracted polio in 1921. He was 35 when the US entered WWI, a bit on the old side for military service but not exceptionally so. He was only 16 during the Spanish American War, a bit too young for service then but not exceptionally so at the time.

Reagan was in the US Army making training films. Sure, it wasn't combat duty by any stretch of the imagination, but neither was the service of the millions of rear echelon troops who worked in fields like supply. When you consider that in a span of a few years, some 16 million men (and thousands of women) had to be brought into the military and trained in everything from infantry rifleman through bomber pilot, there was a certain urgency to developing the films used for training. Some of the films produced by Reagan's outfit were also used to brief combat aircrews before missions. Not glamourous but necessary none the less.

All who wore the uniform served in some capacity, and that capacity was dictated by the military. The service rendered by the supply clerk at Ft. Dix, New Jersey was still service, and so was Reagan's. He never claimed otherwise.

If you're not a member of the US military, you don't have to be "concerned about the motivations and backgrounds of those with the authority to place me and mine in harms way" since there is no draft. If you are a member of the US military, then you volunteered (and thank you for your service). The military isn't a democracy, and the US military has always been under civilian leadership since its inception. That's the way it is and has to be.
