"Good point. I didn't mean to give moral authority to the lone ranger either. Got to admit if we limit service to combat only, then the Republicans have John McCain, and John McCanin, and lets see--John McCain.
The Democrats have Bonior, Daschle, Berrey, Inouye, Kerry, Rangel, Cleland, Harkin, Reed, Hollings, Boswell Peterson, Thompson, McBride, Davis, Stark, Robb, Heflin, McGovern, and Carter was certainly in during a time of war, buried under sea in a submarine."
Well, Kerry voted for the war before voting against it.
And if you going bring in Carter [and Daschle and McGovern and Cleland] you could also mention Dole and Bush Sr on the republican ledger- and probably many others.
And of course our current President was in the miltary during a time of war [But considering that Cold war lasted for a long period of time and the many minor conflicts the US has been involved in over the decades "during a time of war" doesn't mean much].
Anyhow it seems that Democrats could possibly have more elected officals who have a miltary record- being a democrat and having miltary record seems to give a politican more of politican advantage [Dole can attest that it doesn't give too much of an advantage for a Republican politican:].
