re: Spacesuits on the Moon

Aldrin and Armstrong had a redundant checklist and they checked it several times.

In the future even if they simply retire the suits as they approach failure they will end up needing more storage for spacesuits than anything else. Apollo suits were at failure after three days or so. So you need suits for four astronauts for 2 weeks of EVAs. That works out to more than 16 spacesuits!

The whole torso is hard on a Mark III and has at least 15 bearings, several gaskets and three disconnects. One stows probably in an area of about 20" by 20" by 36"!
