12 months? LOL

Our aerospace industry is still using decades old electronics in much of the equipment it flies. The shuttle's computers are probably mid 80s technology, and Nasa just got around to flying an ion drive (a 40 year old technology) only a few years ago. Hell it's going to take them over 12 years to get back to the Moon using "updated" Apollo technology, and you want a proven flight article made of a brand new material within 12 months?

A demonstration of such materials on the first flight of a nuclear thermal rocket (again 40 year old technology) would be more realistic.
