While driving home towards northern Toronto one evening, all of a sudden the sky lit up as bright as day. I was following another car and it stopped very abruptly so I also had to slow down quickly to avoid rear-ending that vehicle, after passing the other vehicle, I looked out the driver door window to see where the light was coming from. Looking up at about 45 degree angle, I saw what must have been the remnants of the bright light, there was a red glowing ball that was moving very fast and trailing a tail of smoke, it was visible only for a brief moment before fading to total darkness.
Many people saw it, a coworker, who was about 150 miles north of Toronto at the time, saw it and assumed that it was the beginning of a nuclear war.
