"It Was Green!"

Your post's title reminded me of a sighting.

Many years ago while on a geology trip there were several students sitting on a dirt road in the middle of a New Mexico desert. We were sitting in a circle, drinking beer and telling tall tales. There was no campfire and the sky was bright with stars.

Then, an amazing meteor appeared in the sky. It started near the zenith and traced down across the sky until nearly the horizon, splitting in two at the very end. The three of us facing that side of the sky that saw it started shouting and pointing but by the time the others had turned around, it was gone. Someone asked "what was it?" The three of us replied, in unison: "It Was Green!"

That was the second green meteor I've seen. I saw one almost as long while trick-or-treating when I was 11.

When I was in high school, I saw a fire ball in the middle of the afternoon. I was riding shotgun of a friends station wagon when I looked up and saw a large fireball and smoke trail through the parting of a mostly cloudy sky. Reports at the time said it was spotted over several states. I didn't even have time to let everyone in the car know, so they didn't believe me until they saw the evening news.
